Cabrini Outreach Reach Out Challenge

Walk, run, cycle or wheel 5kms, donate $5 and nominate 5 of your friends to do the same. Just $5 can make all the difference!

What is the Reach Out Challenge?

The Reach Out Challenge aims to raise funds for people seeking asylum who are facing incredible hardship and destitution as a result of the pandemic.

While we call it a ‘challenge’, it’s designed to be fun and accessible. All you have to do is walk, run, wheel or use any other means available to you to cover 5km. Then make a $5 donation to Cabrini Outreach and ‘reach out’ to 5 friends or family members to share in your glory and take on the challenge themselves.

How do I take part?

Plan a time during October to take your 5km journey (please make sure you abide by all COVID restrictions in your area).

Post a message to your social media of choice or text your family and friends. We suggest:

“I’m participating in the Cabrini Outreach Reach Out Challenge to help people seeking asylum who are facing destitution access the healthcare and support they need during this difficult time. I’m [running] 5kms, donating $5 at cabrinioutreach.com.au/reachOut and asking 5 friends to do the same. I’m reaching out to (Person 1, Person 2, Person 3, Person 4, Person 5) to accept this challenge and pass it on! Find out more at cabrinioutreach.com.au/challenge."

When you have completed the challenge, you might like to post another photo of yourself for a record of your achievement!

We’d love you to tag us @CabriniOutreach or share with us on Facebook so we can celebrate with you!

If I’m not able to donate, can I still participate?

Absolutely! We know that many people are facing tough times financially at the moment.

But we still want as many people as possible joining in, because getting out into the fresh air is important for everyone’s mental health and because this is as much about spreading awareness as it is about raising funds.

So if you’re not in a position to donate, we’d love you to take the challenge and help us show people seeking asylum that Australians care about their plight.

If I can’t participate, can I still donate?

Definitely. Any donations – whether by Challenge participants or not – will go directly to supporting our asylum seeker health program.

How and why does Cabrini Outreach support people seeking asylum?

Cabrini Outreach is a Catholic community development organisation with a mandate to seek social justice, alleviate social inequality and enable better healthcare for people seeking asylum and people experiencing entrenched disadvantage in Australia and overseas.

Since 2016, we have provided free primary care and specialist mental health services to people seeking asylum in Melbourne and are currently expanding to meet mental health needs in regional Victoria. Our clients are either ineligible for Medicare or have low or no income.

Around 62% of our primary care clients have a chronic disease diagnosis (compared to around 50% in the general population) and 18% suffer from multiple chronic diseases. Most have suffered some form of trauma before their arrival in Australia, and around 50% have a mental health diagnosis.

Our aim is to improve the health outcomes of this vulnerable population and in doing so, contribute to the development of more inclusive, equitable and compassionate communities.

Who can I contact for further information?
